Don’t know where it’s going to go at the end of the year, but right now it’s gracing my dining room. As far as room decor is concerned, ratty movie posters are out. Classy oil paintings are in.
I suppose I will auction it off. If any rich alumni want to sponsor my year at Stanford [...]
I was supposed to paint quite a bit this summer, but for some reason it’s harder to do at home than at school. This is ironic because I actually have less time to paint at school. I think all the soul-draining techie classes I take at school provide a constant source of inspiration to do [...]
Which isn’t exactly an encouraging thought, given the mountain of stuff I need to do between now and then. I started knocking things off today, though. This morning I took the French SOPI, a silly oral proficiency exam given on a computer. I hate computerized tests, give me good old fashion pencil and paper any [...]
…There go the loves that wither,The old loves with wearier wings; And all dead years draw thither,And all disastrous things;Dead dreams of days forsaken,Blind buds that snows have shaken,Wild leaves that winds have taken,Red strays of ruined springs.…From too much love of living,From hope and fear set free,We thank with brief thanksgivingWhatever gods may beThat no [...]

You can see a larger [...]
Finished my ee108b program in an hour today. That’s starting, with no idea what the assignment was about, reading the docs, coding, debugging, and submitting perfect working code. Actually there was no debugging, it worked perfectly the first time. From this I conclude one of:
1. EE classes aren’t so hard after all.
2. This EE class [...]
So today I’m about 33% finished my triptych for Painting III, “Superman. Feynman. Spaceman.” It’s not a triptych necessarily in the strictest sense, but I really like the word “triptych”. The basic premise is that Superman, Feynman, and Spaceman (probably Buzz Aldrin, though I’ven’t decided yet) presents three heroes who are heroic in three different [...]
The God Who Loves You by Carl Dennis
It must be troubling for the god who loves you To ponder how much happier you’d be today Had you been able to glimpse your many futures. It must be painful for him to watch you on Friday evenings Driving home from the office, content with your [...]
